Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, the Deputy Director, Legal Services will:

  • Represent KASNEB in court proceedings and other legal matters
  • Develop and implement integrity and compliance frameworks
  • Ensure secure custody of contracts, agreements, and legal records
  • Review laws and regulations relevant to the organization
  • Provide legal interpretation and advisory services to various departments
  • Support enforcement of the code of conduct and ethics
  • Promote awareness of applicable laws among staff
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Formulate legal strategies to minimize disputes and litigation risks
  • Conduct legal research and prepare advisory opinions
  • Liaise with external legal counsel when required
  • Draft contracts, leases, and other legal documents
  • Ensure timely submission of annual returns to relevant authorities
  • Establish and maintain an organized legal registry
  • Plan and budget for legal activities
  • Monitor adherence to new laws, regulations, and directives

Requirements / Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant work experience, including at least three (3) years as Assistant Director, Legal Services or in a comparable role
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized institution
  • Master of Laws (LLM) degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Law (Advocates Training Programme) from the Kenya School of Law
  • Membership in the Law Society of Kenya (LSK)
  • Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
  • Leadership course certificate of at least four (4) weeks from a recognized institution
  • Proficiency in computer applications
  • Demonstrated professional competence and strong performance record
