Duties and Responsibilities
The Agroforestry Innovations Associate will play a key role in strengthening agroforestry programs across multiple countries. This role focuses on designing, testing, and scaling innovative solutions that improve program outcomes for farmers and the environment.
Program Innovation and Development
- Identify new ideas and strategies to improve agroforestry program impact
- Design and pilot innovative solutions before scaling them across country programs
- Develop approaches to improve seedling survival rates
- Introduce improved planning tools for nursery managers
- Research and test alternatives for nursery materials and processes
Seed Systems and Nursery Support
- Strengthen systems for sourcing and distributing high-quality tree seeds
- Support improvements in rural nursery operations
- Assist in building tools that help nursery managers plan and manage production
- Improve systems that track tree planting and survival at the farm level
Research and Environmental Impact
- Conduct research to match tree species with suitable environments
- Support diversification of tree species used in agroforestry programs
- Contribute to initiatives that address climate change, biodiversity loss, and soil health
- Analyze field data and provide recommendations based on findings
Operational Support
- Provide short-term support to country teams when additional capacity is required
- Assist with field operations or take part in temporary assignments when needed

- Work closely with internal teams across different countries

Requirements / Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in agroforestry, landscape restoration, or related fields
- Proven experience delivering results in Sub-Saharan Africa
- University degree or advanced qualification in agroforestry, ecology, restoration, or related disciplines
- Strong analytical skills and ability to make data-driven decisions
