Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will take a leadership role in maritime safety, investigations, and regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing investigations related to maritime incidents and accidents
- Conducting investigations into maritime casualties, including shipwrecks, in line with international investigation codes
- Managing inquiries related to alleged incompetence or misconduct by seafarers
- Coordinating implementation of national policies on safety of navigation
- Supporting integration of maritime safety policies into national development frameworks
- Supervising the implementation of international conventions such as the Nairobi International Wreck Removal Convention

Requirements / Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Academic Qualifications:
- One or more of the following:
- Certificate of Competency III/I – STCW 1978 (as amended)
- Certificate of Competency II/I – STCW 1978 (as amended)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Environment
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nautical Science
- Master’s Degree in any of the following:
- Maritime Affairs
- Marine Engineering
- Naval Architecture
- Nautical Science
Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience as a Principal Surveyor (Navigation and Hydrography) or in maritime investigation/receiver of wreck roles
Additional Training:
- Management course lasting at least four (4) weeks
