Duties and Responsibilities
The Safeguarding Advisor will play a central role in ensuring that safeguarding standards are applied consistently across programs and partnerships. The position involves advisory, training, compliance, and investigation responsibilities.
Safeguarding Framework and Implementation
- Promote awareness and understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures among staff and partners
- Ensure safeguarding is integrated into all program stages, including design, implementation, and monitoring
- Support the application of safe, inclusive, and dignified programming principles
- Develop and deliver safeguarding training tailored to different teams and partners
- Monitor safeguarding systems and recommend improvements for continuous learning
- Provide technical guidance on emerging safeguarding standards, donor requirements, and legal frameworks
- Strengthen internal safeguarding networks and support focal points through mentoring
Support to Staff and Internal Teams
- Offer expert advice on safeguarding during program planning and execution
- Promote a work environment that prioritizes safety, inclusion, and respect
- Ensure staff and volunteers understand their responsibilities and reporting procedures
- Support case management processes, ensuring confidentiality and proper documentation
- Lead or assist in safeguarding investigations using appropriate professional standards
- Provide managers with tools and guidance to handle safeguarding concerns effectively
Partner Support and Capacity Building
- Strengthen safeguarding systems within partner organizations through training and technical support
- Assist partners working with vulnerable groups to meet safeguarding standards
- Support church networks and related institutions in developing safeguarding policies and practices
- Conduct assessments and follow-ups to ensure partner compliance
- Promote safer programming approaches within community-level projects
- Encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration among partners
Networking and Coordination
- Participate in regional and global safeguarding networks
- Contribute to sector-wide initiatives and best practices in safeguarding
- Engage with donor-led safeguarding programs to ensure compliance
- Share knowledge with partner networks and support joint initiatives
- Ensure safeguarding commitments are clearly reflected in program documentation and communication

Requirements / Qualifications

Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in safeguarding, protection, or Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH)
- Strong understanding of safeguarding policies, legal frameworks, and best practices
- Experience managing safeguarding cases and handling sensitive information
- Experience conducting investigations and preparing detailed reports
- Background in international development or humanitarian work
- Experience delivering training and building capacity across teams
- Ability to advise and influence stakeholders in complex situations
- Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
- High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential matters
Desirable Skills
- Experience working within faith-based or church-related organizations
