About the Program
The Kenya Secondary Education Equity and Quality Improvement Program (SEEQIP) is a five-year initiative running from 2024 to 2029. The Government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Education and in partnership with the World Bank, is implementing the program.
SEEQIP aims to:
- Increase fair access to quality secondary education
- Strengthen education systems across the country
- Support vulnerable learners, including those with special needs
- Improve education access for refugee learners
- Enhance opportunities for students in ASAL areas, informal settlements, and remote regions
The program focuses on three main areas:
- Expanding equal access to quality secondary education
- Improving teaching standards in junior school
- Strengthening systems for equitable education service delivery
The Environmental Safeguards Specialist will support environmental, social, health, and safety standards within this program.
Duties and Responsibilities
The selected candidate will report directly to the Program Coordinator and will be responsible for managing environmental safeguards under SEEQIP.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and managing environmental safeguard instruments and related documentation
- Overseeing implementation of environmental safeguard requirements within the program
- Conducting regular monitoring and supervision of environmental aspects of SEEQIP activities
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual environmental safeguards reports
- Providing technical advice on environmental compliance and best practices
- Supporting capacity building and training initiatives related to environmental safeguards
- Ensuring that environmental, social, health, and safety standards are effectively addressed throughout project implementation

Requirements / Qualifications
To qualify for appointment, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies or a related discipline
- At least five (5) years of relevant professional experience in assignments supported by multilateral institutions such as the World Bank
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies or a related field
- Formal training in Occupational Health and Safety standards
- Proven record of successfully completing similar assignments, supported by client recommendation letters
- Registration with NEMA as a Practicing Lead Expert and/or accreditation with other relevant professional bodies
- Strong ICT skills, networking ability, and collaborative working skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in team environments
- Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya (2010) and the Leadership and Integrity Act

Terms of Service
- Contract duration: Three (3) years
- Renewable once for an additional three (3) years based on satisfactory performance
