Duties and Responsibilities
The Inspector of Works will support infrastructure projects by ensuring construction activities meet required standards, specifications, and safety regulations.
Site Inspection and Supervision
- Conduct regular site visits to inspect ongoing construction works
- Ensure activities follow approved engineering drawings and project specifications
- Monitor contractor performance and adherence to project timelines
- Verify measurements, alignment, and levels of construction works
- Identify and report any deviations from approved plans
Quality Assurance and Control
- Inspect materials delivered to project sites to confirm quality standards
- Monitor construction processes to ensure proper techniques are followed
- Observe and document testing of materials such as concrete, soil, and steel
- Report defective or non-compliant work and recommend corrective actions
Measurement and Documentation
- Measure completed work and verify quantities for payment approvals
- Maintain detailed site records including daily logs and inspection reports
- Prepare progress reports with supporting photos and technical notes
- Assist in documenting variations, instructions, and approvals
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
- Monitor adherence to workplace safety regulations and site safety plans
- Identify unsafe practices and escalate them immediately
- Ensure environmental protection measures are implemented during construction
- Support risk mitigation efforts at project sites
Coordination and Communication
- Work closely with contractors, engineers, and project teams
- Participate in site meetings and provide updates on project progress
- Assist in resolving technical challenges during construction
- Facilitate smooth communication among stakeholders
Compliance with Standards
- Ensure all works meet Kenyan construction regulations and standards
- Confirm contractor compliance with contractual obligations

Requirements / Qualifications
Academic Qualifications
- Degree or Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related field
Professional Requirements
- Registration with the Engineering Board of Kenya or Technicians Registration Board (or eligibility for registration) is an added advantage
- 3–5 years of experience in construction supervision or civil works inspection
