About WHO
Global public health is the purview of the United Nations’ World Health Organization (WHO), a specialized agency. With 150 field offices worldwide and six regional offices, its headquarters are located in Geneva, Switzerland.
On April 7, 1948, the WHO was formally founded, and on September 1, 1948, it started operations. It combined the resources, staff, and responsibilities of the Paris-based Office International d’Hygiène Publique and the Health Organization of the League of Nations, including the International Classification of Diseases (ICD).
1951 saw the agency’s operations pick up steam following a substantial inflow of funding and expertise. The official mission of the World Health Organization is to support global health and safety while aiding the weak.
It establishes worldwide health standards, gathers information on global health concerns, offers technical support to nations, and facilitates debates on health-related science and policy. The World Health Report, its official publication, offers evaluations of global health issues.
