Duties and Responsibilities
The Security Officer I will oversee and coordinate security operations across the university. Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising and guiding all security personnel on duty
- Ensuring the safety of students, staff, visitors, and university property
- Enforcing traffic control measures within the university compound
- Conducting routine security inspections and preparing detailed reports
- Preventing theft, vandalism, and loss of university assets
- Managing staff welfare issues such as duty schedules, uniforms, and leave planning
- Investigating incidents including fire outbreaks and coordinating safe evacuation procedures
- Gathering and analyzing intelligence information, including CCTV surveillance monitoring
- Performing regular security risk assessments
- Implementing approved security policies and operational procedures
- Reviewing security performance reports to enhance efficiency
- Coordinating with public law enforcement agencies when necessary
- Managing emergency preparedness and contingency plans
- Preparing and submitting comprehensive security reports to the Vice Chancellor
- Identifying and addressing security breaches promptly
- Organizing training and professional development for security staff
- Supervising contracted security service providers
- Carrying out any additional duties assigned by the immediate supervisor

Requirements / Qualifications
To qualify for appointment, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must have attained the rank of Inspector of Police or its equivalent
OR - Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in security-related studies from a recognized institution
- At least six (6) years of experience in security services
- A minimum of three (3) years served at the level of Security Officer II or equivalent
- Completion of a supervisory or professional training course lasting more than two weeks will be an added advantage

Salary & Benefits (Estimated Range)
- Basic Salary: KES 63,647/= to KES 97,988/= per month
