About UNV
A United Nations initiative, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program uses volunteers all around the world to promote peace and development. Volunteering can change the direction and speed of development and is a potent way to get people involved in solving problems related to it.

The International Conference on Middle Level Manpower, held in Puerto Rico in 1962 by the US Peace Corps, supported the idea of foreign volunteers aiding in the skill-building process in developing nations.
In order to promote volunteer services for development globally, the International Peace Corps Secretariat—later renamed the International Secretariat for Volunteer Service (ISVS)—was established as a global institution.
