About UNESCO
Through worldwide collaboration in the fields of education, the arts, sciences, and culture, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), a specialized agency of the UN, seeks to advance global peace and security. It has partners in the non-governmental, intergovernmental, and business sectors in addition to its 194 member states and 12 associate members.
UNESCO, which is based in Paris, France, has 199 national commissioners as well as 53 regional field offices. The International Committee for Intellectual Cooperation of the League of Nations was replaced by UNESCO when it was established in 1945. The Second World War had a significant influence on UNESCO’s founding objective, which is to promote human rights, sustainable development, and peace by fostering international cooperation.
The five main program areas it uses to achieve this goal are education, the natural sciences, the social and human sciences, culture, and communication and information. Enhancing literacy, offering technical assistance and education, advancing research, defending press freedom and independent media, conserving local and cultural history, and fostering cultural diversity are all goals that UNESCO supports.
