One of the nine expert groups of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), whose mission is to promote the global development of geospatial information.
Vanessa Lawrence, a British geographer, was chosen to be the first co-chair of the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) in 2011. Dr. Wu Hongbo, the Under-Secretary-General, gave her a Certificate of Appreciation for her four years of uninterrupted service in this capacity.
